Longtime high school friends Kellen Voss, Rook, and Ren Ito spent much of their school years trading records, going to shows, and wearing out albums by bands like Sister Machine Gun, The Prodigy, and Machines of Loving Grace. By the time they were old enough to have access to a garage, a drum kit, and a few questionable pieces of secondhand gear, they had started spending weekend nights in Kellen’s garage trying to build something of their own. Early sessions were mostly noise: distorted guitar, cheap keyboards, drum machines, sampled sounds, and Ren pushing everything faster than it probably needed to go.
Over time, the experiment became refined — The Attack Engine.
Kellen took on guitar and the band’s lower, rap-driven vocals. Rook moved deeper into synths, samples, and a more aggressive vocal style. Ren built the rhythmic side around live drums, breakbeats, triggers, and electronic percussion. They never really stopped working the way they started: three friends in a room, turning things up, trying new ideas, and keeping whatever made them want to hear it again.
